Chinese porcelain snuff bottle with metal stopper.
A
lovely-shaped bottle decorated with hand-painted flowers and animals. Horse on one side of bottle (represents
endurance, loyalty and purity to Buddhist way of thinking) and goat on the
other side (symbolizes spiritual ambition and evokes a sense of independence).
Colors include pink, yellow and light blue.
The bottle is
signed on the bottom.
The stopper is
metal with a design resembling intertwined snakes or serpents with a finial in
the shape of a cicada. Ancient Chinese
regarded cicadas as symbols of rebirth or immortality.
The bottle has
a red wax seal and a paper tag affixed to it.

Bottle
(including stopper) measures 1 ¾” high x 1 ¼” wide.
Condition is VERY GOOD.
This is a
superb piece from a private collector.
It has been in their possession since they purchased it in China when they
traveled with the first group of Western visitors allowed into the country when
Deng Xiaping (leader of the People’s Republic of China at that time)
started to develop China’s tourist
industry in the late 1970’s.
