A 15" Japanese vintage geisha doll with hand-painted face. This lovely doll is a soft-bodied, cloth-covered doll. She is in a sitting position on a separate red blanket & pillow. The hand-crafted florals in her hair and the fruit she is holding in her hands are embellished with tiny beads or brass bells. Her silk leaf-print kimono in red and tan has a contrasting sash/obi in a red and metallic gold and silver plaid design.
She is in remarkably good condition, with no deterioration in the fabric; it remains soft and pliable. Colors are still very vibrant, with only minor discoloration due to age and normal exposure to light. There is amazing detail in her construction--note her delicate fingers; even her fingernails have been hand-painted. It appears that she was wearing shoes at one point, but they are missing.
A rare and unsual piece; a wonderful addition to any doll collection.
