This wonderful antique console table is solid walnut. It has one middle drawer that features two turned wood knobs. The two front legs are hand-carved. The bottom shelf is perfect for display of plants or other decor items. Approximate measurements are 40" wide x 28" high x 20" deep.
The 3/4"-thick marble top is white with steaks of black and grey. It extends over the edge of the console about 3/4" on sides and front. It has a curved front design and a smooth beveled edge around all sides except the back. Back edge of marble is rough and it appears to have had possibly a back splash at one time (see picture).
As with most antique furnishings, there are a few issues that bear pointing out:
The console is in GOOD condition--solid and stable and sturdy enough to support the heavy marble top and shows minimal wear, with no deep scratches or gouges. There is a split in the wood in the bottom of the drawer (see picture of underside). On bottom shelf has a spot where wood has split (that doesn't appear to be all the way through) and there is some dried glue from a previous repair on the back leg where it meets the bottom shelf. The marble top is in VERY GOOD condition, with only minor imperfections, but no cracks or repairs. As mentioned previously, there probably was once a back splash attached to the marble top. There are 2 small holes that have been filled in on each side of the back surface of the marble (see pictures), from where the back splash was probably attached.
These issues do not detract from the beauty or function of this nice old piece.
