Beautiful Walnut box with interior lid as well as slide lid. This box is 12" in length, 5 1/2" in width and 6" in height. It has a divider inside separating a smaller compartment from the larger one. It is believed to have been a humidor for pipes and pipe tobacco in the 1800's. Although the traditional humidor of that period was a piece of furniture which typically was beside a chair, this would be one which was easy to transport. Military officers during the Civil War used humidors similar to this. This is a very beautiful piece with no chips, cracks or discernable imperfections.
