We are very pleased and excited to offer this charming and quaint Toby Jug. This is an original piece of Chelsea-Derby Ca. 1756-1775. This seated, full figure of a man is believed to be "the Tax Collector". He wears the traditional tricorn hat and white frock with green waistecoat and yellow pantaloons, holding the traditional jug of spirits. The detail is still very vibrant and lovely. The ribbons on his leggings are beautiful and the detailing remains immaculate. There are minor chips in the glazing which is not uncommon for a piece of this age. This Toby bears the characteristic gold anchor denoting its origins from the Chelsea-Derby factory during the above referenced time period.
This Toby measures 5 3/4 inches in height; 3 1/2 inches from the back of the handle to the front of the base and 3 1/2 inches from the edge of the tricorn on one side to the edge of the tricorn on the other side.
