The brick red stoneware body was named Rosso Antico, literally ancient red since 1765.
The impressed Wedgwood mark and generally using a 3 letter code with the last letter a U or V in this case representing the year of production, 1866 or 1867 respectively. The letter was used thru a second cycle & represents the year 1892 or 1893 respectively. It is practically impossible to narrow the production to either year with certainty, other than, after 1891 marks would also have been impressed with England. Process of elimination, this piece is most likely Ca. 1866-1867.
However, wares were impressed with the block mark from approximately 1769 until the adoption of the sans serif mark in 1929. Also with this particular piece, there is only the Wedgwood stamp, the letter U or V and a number 940. The Wedgwood stamp and the Letter are in a line, the number 940 is totally separate and in a different font and size.
On the other hand, there are other sources that would indicate this piece is Ca. 1848.
This urn stands 8 ½ inches tall and is 5 inches in diameter at the widest part.
