Up for purchase is a large antique cast iron coin bank in the shaped of a tusked elephant with a howdah strapped onto his back. It was manufactured by the A. C. Williams Co. circa 1910, with no manufacturer's marks on it. The bank was cast in two halves and is fitted together by a bolt on one side. There is relief detail on the howdah along with some hand-painted black and red spots. The right front leg is slightly lifted, so there is a small round stool casted onto the bottom that the foot rests on in order to make the bank stand flat on all four legs (seen in photos). The trunk is a separate cast iron piece inserted between the two halves. The coin slot is on top in the howdah. The elephant is 6-inches in length, 2.5-inches wide, and stands just over 4.5-inches in height. This is a heavy bank that weighs 2 lbs. 2 ounces. See photos for more details. This bank is in excellent condition and a collector's delight. I can find no damage whatsoever to the metal surface--no cracks, no dents, no missing pieces, etc. The paint is all original on it and worn down just enough to give it the character one would expect on a 100-year-old bank. Furthermore, this bank appears never to have been used. The paint in the seam along the belly remains uncracked, indicating to me it was never opened once painted. This is an exceptionally nice collector's coin bank! See my Store for more collectible coin banks.Winners have the right to request from me other forms of payment.
