You are bidding on a hardback copy of Indian Why Stories: Sparks from War Eagle's Lodge-Fire by Frank  B. Linderman with color illustrations by Charles M. Russell.  It was published in 1915 by Charles Scribner's Sons and this is the rare First Edition.  The book measures 6.25 x 8.25-inches in size and contains 236 pages.  All eight full-page color plates are present with additional Russell pen sketches at the beginning of each chapter.  Contains legends heard by Linderman from Blackfeet, Chippewa, and Cree elders.  See photos for contents and illustrations.

This old book is in exceptionally good condition.  The book has clean covers (including the paste-down on the front cover) with sun-fading to the spine.  The pastedown is in excellent condition showing only a couple of minor scuffs to the surface, but no edge chipping which is usually the case for this edition.  The cover corners are lightly rubbed, but there are no bumps or exposure to the corners.  The interior is clean throughout with no soiling or markings, but there is a small bit of age-spotting to the frontispiece tissue guard.  Pages are in very good condition except for circa six pages that were uncut along the top edge at time of issue that ended up with a tear to the top edge when separated.  No corner creases to pages.  Intermittent cracking to the interior hinges, but no separation such that the binding still remains tight and square.  A very nice copy of this rare First Edition!
