You are bidding on a hardback copy of The Beginnings of Writing by Walter James Hoffman. It was published in 1895 by Macmillan and Company, and this is a first edition copy. The book measures 5 x 7.5-inches in size and contains 209 pages including frontispiece with tissue guard, illustrations, footnotes, and an index. See photos for contents and a sample of the illustrations list. This book is in very good condition. It has clean covers except for a small black spot on the spine (seen in photo just below Hoffman). The corners and spine ends have been light rubbed, but no fraying to spine ends or exposure to corners. Also, the corners have not been bumped. Former owner's name (seen in photos) on the first blank page, but in a foreign script that I don't recognize. No damage to pages other than a vertical crease in page 151. Pages have age-darkened a bit. The glued binding remains tight, but the sections are shaken (seen in photo of the bottom page edges) and the title page is loose. A very nice copy especially for its age and quite rare in this first edition. Buyer's have the right to request from me other forms of payment. Winning bidder to pay $3.50 in USPS media rate mail. Books usually ship out within one day of receipt of payment. Note to foreign buyers: The posted shipping is for U.S. only shipments. Foreign shipments at extra S&H--see payment details. Import duties, taxes and any other charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. Please check with your country's custom office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying. On Nov-29-09 at 19:36:36 PST, seller added the following information:
