This book appears to be a First Edition copy with no other printings/dates indicated.  This small, 2+ lbs. book is 1.5-inches thick, so of a rather unusual shape.  In addition the paper covers are thicker than normal paperbacks in that it is actually a dust jacket glued onto paper boards with an endpaper on the back of the covers.  Prestal is a German publishing company and most likely accounts for the unusual binding of this paperback book.

Also included with the book is a 1989 VHS tape entitled The Civil War Photographers that includes photos by Matthew Brady along with numerous other era photographers.  Most of the film shows hand-colored glass photo plates with the narrative taken from different newspaper accounts, private diaries, and personal letters all depictioning the war, interspersed with war songs.  Consequently, this is not a documentary about photographers, per se, but rather personal insights of what was going on--a huge snowball fight, drunken incidents, horror of mass deaths, Merimac and Monitor fight; a brutal execution--all designed to give one a feeling of being there.  Very interesting with rarely seen color photos.  Running time is 43 minutes.  See photos for more details.

This book is near mint condition.  It is clean throughout with no markings or soiling.  No damage to covers or pages.  Blemishes are confined to a scant bit of rubbing on the covers and a slight cock forward to the binding.  An exceptionally nice copy!   The VHS tape is an ex-library copy that appears to not have been checked out very often because it appears new.  Library name has been removed in photo for privacy, but appears on case.  Tape is in perfect working condition.
