Up for auction is an old handmade fish pin. It has a series of inlaid silver symbols on the front side and what appears to be a bone mount on the rear side for the holding pin. I believe the fish is carved out of polished turtle shell. There are no markings on this pin, but it probably came from the Northwest Coast area. It measures 2 3/8-inches in length and is 5/16-inch in height. It appears to be quite old and may be earlier that my 1920s estimated date. The silver inlay pieces are very small, and an indication of a skilled craftsman. See photos for more details. This pin is in excellent condition showing no wear or damage. There is a bit of curling to one end of the bone piece that holds the pin (seen in photos). Also there are some blackened areas on the sterling silver inlays that need polishing.
