You are bidding on a set of antique bookends produced by JB Hirsch circa 1932. They depict a librarian reading a book in front of a bookshelf and are made of gray metal with a white celluloid head on the librarian. He sits atop a polished marble base. The base measures 5 x 4.5-inches and the height is 6.5-inches. There is a felt pad on the bottom of each base. There is an "H" in the right bottom corner on the back side. One bookend weighs 52.6 ounces and the other one weighs 54. 3 ounces. See photos for more details. These antique bookends are in very good condition and show little damage. There are no broken metal parts or dents in the metal. There is a hairline crack in the metal atop the bottom step of the stepladder (seen in first photo) on one bookend and on the other bookend there is a small crack in the celluloid on the back of the head (seen in last photo). A tiny bit of the paint has been rubbed off along the rear edges. There are two 3/16-in. long, thin flat chips along the top edge of the marble base on one bookend and on the other there is a 1/4-inch long top corner chip and two tiny dings along the bottom edge of the marble base. These chips are barely visible and do not show up in the photos. Overall, a very nice set. See my Store for many more antique bookends in nice condition!.
