Up for purchase is a set of bronze clad bookends that depict the 16th Century ship "The Flying Dutchman" whose captain was Hendrik van der Decken (spelled without the "c" on the back of the bookends). Over the years it has become a ghost or phantom ship sometimes seen around the Cape Peninsula of South Africa. The bookends were manufactured in 1927 by Armor Bronze, with their original tag on the bottoms. The base measures 5 x 2.5-inches (at the widest points) and it stands 7-inches high. One bookend weighs 36.6 ounces and the other one weighs 34.7 ounces. See photos for more details. These bookends are in excellent condition. Rarely do they come with the original tags on the bottoms, another indication of the careful care they have had over the years. There are no cracks, holes, or missing pieces in the metal surfaces. Even more rare, there are no dents in these bookends except for one very small rounded dent in the highest point on the main sail of one bookend only (barely seen in single frontal photo below). Finally, there is no significant wear to the paint. Consequently, this is an exceptionally nice set of bookends that are virtually in mint condition. See my Store for many more antique bookends in nice condition!. Buyer's have the right to request from me other forms of payment. Winning bidder to pay $15.00 in USPS Priority shipping and handling. Bookends usually ship out within three days of receipt of payment. Note to foreign buyers: The posted shipping is for U.S. only shipments. Foreign shipments at extra S&H--see payment details. Import duties, taxes and any other charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges.
