Up for purchase is a set of polychrome, bronze clad antique bookends that depict a farmer plowing his field with a single-blade plow on two wheels, being pulled by an ox and horse. There is a background to the scene that includes other animals, field furrows, clouds,etc. These bookends were copyrighted on Aug. 31, 1921 by the Pompeian Bronze company with their markings on the rear side. The scene is entitled "Ploughman" (name on rear side near top) and was designed by artist Peter Manfredi with his name imprinted in the lower left corner (seen in photos). The base measures 5.25 x 2.5-inches in size and the back stands 4.75-inches in height and is 6.75-inches in width. One bookend weighs 41 ounces and the other one weighs 39.9 ounces. See photos for more details. These antique bookends are in very good condition. There are no holes, cracks, or missing pieces to the metal surfaces. One bookend shows no wear to the metal or painted surfaces. On the other bookend (seen in the last photo) there is a bump that flattened one top corner, 5 small holes and a dent to the opposite side (seen in photos), and a small bump to a bottom front corners of the base.
