Many historical events; played out in Ebbets Field; were etched in public memory. Certainly the most important one was Jackie Robinson making his debut on April 15; 1947 and playing first base for the Dodgers. What could have been a tense situation was defused when Dodgers shortstop Pee Wee Reese put his arm around Robinson before the game; letting the crowd know that he was on Robinson's side in any potential standoff.
