Books of Hours, are prayer books intended for private devotion, are
some of the most spectular of the medieval illuminated manuscripts ever created.
Volumes of such superb quality as this example are extremely rare,
and this Book of Hours is an exceptional example of some of the finest works
of art of the late Middle Ages.
Even the tiny pictures are painted with astonishing detail. from
pebbles in dusty foregrounds, shoe straps, and tufts of grass in the cracks
of ruined walls, to fantastic buildings in the distance.
