Founded by J. Stuart Blackton and partner Eugene V. Brewster heads of Vitagraph studio the original title was The Motion Picture Story Magazine. In 1914, name was changed to Motion Picture Magazine. Early editions included information on how to get involved in film production as well as popular fiction. The magazine later shifted it's focus to celebrities and attracted a larger female readership.
