William B. Ziff, who had been an aviator in World War I, created
Popular Aviation in August 1927, it was published by Popular Aviation
Publishing Company of Chicago, Illinois.
It soon became the largest aviation magazine, boasting a circulation
of 100,000 by 1929.
The magazine's changed it's name to Aeronautics in June of
1929 and was published by Aeronautical Publications, Inc.
It went back to the title of Popular Aviation in July 1930. The magazine
again changed it's name to Flying in 1942 and is still published
today.
