JACQUELINE PEPPARD
A talented watercolorist, Jacqueline Peppard draws her inspiration from the deserts and mountains of the Southwest. An intimate understanding of her subjects was developed by many hours spent hiking, camping and observing. Her paintings capture the very essence of the landscaped. In her studio high above Telluride, Colorado, she works translating the purity of color and the spectacular lighting of the
Southwest into her own vision.
She is the eldest of eight children, the free spirit of the family, who loved the outdoors and dreamed of becoming an artist. Jackie has traveled extensively in North & South America and spent winters skiing in Utah. At 25 she enrolled in the Colorado Institute of Art and graduated in 1981.
Peppard's constant companion is her camera, which is used for recording scenery for future paintings. She paints only in her studio on 500 lb rough Arches paper. Transparent washes are applied and gradually built up to achieve a clean vibrant feel. No opaque or black or white tints are used.
Jacqueline Peppard was the featured cover artist for Winter 1997/98 edition of Watercolor Magic magazine. The article describes how she teaches aspiring watercolorists to expand their possibilities and add new vibrancy to their paintings.
She is a signature member of Watercolor West and the National Watercolor Society.
