    Judith Durr

"My goal is to preserve the heritage of the subjects portrayed in my paintings. I want to capture the emotion of the viewer. I enjoy people wanting to touch the fabric of the rugs or the beads on the moccasins. I strive for realism."

Judith Durr is an Arizona native. She is dedicated to realism in her Southwestern still life oil paintings, and her spectacular style speaks for itself. Her heritage is Choctaw and Cherokee, and she is a registered member of the Choctaw tribe. Her heritage, life on the Navajo reservation and her love of history and archaeology are the inspiration for her paintings. Judith is known for her native beaded moccassin paintings and the detail paintings of her rug background. Her exquisite paintings are done with layers, time and patience.

Many of the native rugs, beaded mocassins and the jewelry Judith uses, are old family pieces acquired while her family lived on the Navajo reservation in Montezuma Creek, Utah. It was these formative years that have given Judith Durr the inspiration for her exquisite oil paintings. Some of her artifacts come from Judith's talented family members; her husband, mother, father and son. She collects the Native artifacts, from South America to Canada. These artifacts allow her original oil paintings to be painted strictly from life and not from a photograph.

Judith's award winning style speaks for itself and her original oil paintings are internationally recognized. Her genres include Southwestern still lifes, Western life and historic research. She studied at the Scottsdale Artist School with Jim Daly and in private studies. She currently lives in Cave Creek, Arizona.

Judith is a member of the Indian Arts and Crafts Association (IACA) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is a card member of the Choctaw tribe and is a signature member of Women Artists of the West. Her work is represented in public and private collections throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe.

" My passion is the journey of producing the superior oil painting. I maintain my identity and heritage through my artwork. " Judith Durr
His paintings have been shown widely across the nation and featured in numerous private collections. Some pieces are shown on a permanent basis at the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona; the Philbrook Art Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma; the Whitney in Cody, Wyoming, and the Indian Center Museum in Wichita.
