Antique Italian Oil Canvas Painting Great Frame Art
This is a beautiful antique Italian oil painting. The subject of this amazing piece is the Return of the Prodigal Son. This piece was part of the private collection of Cardinal Richard Cushing (1895-1970). The Cardinal served as Archbishop of Boston and was a close friend of the the Kennedy Family. He officiated at the marriage of John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Lee Bouvier in 1953. He baptized many of the Kennedy children. Cushing also gave the prayer invocation at Kennedy's inauguration in 1961. The Cardinal also celebrated President Kennedy's funeral Mass in 1963 at St. Matthew's Cathedral in Washington, D.C. and the day before the funeral, he gave a televised eulogy for the assassinated President. The antique frame this amazing piece is in still has the original paper label from Francesco Somasca. Somasca was a furniture maker for the King of Italy.
