Ancient Roman bronze Gladiators ring with a large depiction of Sol Invictus (the Roman sun god) on the octagonal shield shaped Bezel, for protection in the arena and kill marks etched by the gladiator on the side of the band to commemorate each kill

The diamond shaped image surrounding Sol Invictus, represents the arena.
Just outside of the arena, there are a series of lines surrounding the arena which represent palm leaves. Palm leaves and olive branches were symbols commonly used to represent brotherhood between Gladiators and Soldiers.
