Rare Antique Lantern Red Nautical German Early 1900's
This is a very rare antique lantern from Germany from the early 1900s was used for Nautical or possible RR (railroad) lantern light.
This is an original, not a replica.
There are no marks to indicate the manufacturer, however, on the very worn wick feeder, some parcial lettering could be made out. "APOR PA ESR # 583 20" the rest is worn off aparently from use.
The top opens aparently for lighjting purpose, and the glass globe is held in place between the top and bottom by a curved cage like structure. the red glass globe is about 8" round and it has no damage (no cracks or chips)
there is no wick attached to the burner part.
used oil or kerosene, I sensed no odor to tell which was used, its been stored for quite some time.
Im not sure of the material, the top looks like it could be brass, the rest could be brass or copper.
The fluid container inserts from the bottom, and is secured with to hooks that with a twist slide into eyes on the lantern base. The hooks and eyes are in good shape.
The overall size of this lantern is
17" tall and 10" across middle frame.
There are a couple of pieces chipped out at the top cover, and 1(one) gage wire is broken off, (aparently an attempted repair was made manny years ago, but didn't hold) other than that, there are scratches and quite a few dings, and needing a good cleaning, the overall condition is pretty good considering the antique age.
