Rare Antique Lantern RR Coach German Early 1900's
This is a very rare antique lantern from Germany from the early 1900's was used for RR (railroad) or coach or possibly as an auto lantern light.
Reichsbahn had similar but different, this style is much older.
This is an original (not a replica)
There are no marks to indicate the manufacturer, however, on the very worn turn wheel some parcial lettering could be made out. "SEPULCHR - BEL" the rest is worn off aparently from use.
The front opens and the glass lens is curved the lens is about 5" across and it has no damage (no cracks or chips)
there is still a tattered original wick attached to the burner part.
used oil or kerosene, I sensed no odor to tell which was used, its been stored for quite some time.
I'm not sure of the material, the top looks like it could be brass, the rest could be brass or copper.
The insert behind the lens appears to be aluminum type material.
The fluid container clips in from the bottom, the clips are in good shape.
Other than scratches an dings, and needing a good cleaning, the overall condition is pretty good considering the antique age.
Size is about
11" tall and 7.5" from back to front.
