This is a magnificent scale model of one of WWI's most infamous captured airplanes (prior to its capture), the Albatros D.III of Friedrich-Wilhelm Wichard. When you look at this Albatross, it's hard to believe that it's 1:72 scale with all the detail and rigging. This model is ONE OF A KIND!  This model comes with a basic diorama and includes a protective case. This model is VERY delicate and some damage may occur during shipping, but we'll do all that we can to prevent that. Sales are final, no returns. NO RESERVE!!!

Brief history:  Leuntnant Wichard of Jasta 24 was flying Albatros D.III 2096/16, which was blazoned with his wife's name on the fuselage, on 27 April 1917 when he was forced to land behind enemy lines. He and his aircraft were captured by the French. Wichard went off to a POW camp, while his Albatros had its iron crosses doped over with the French roundel and was test-flown by French pilots. Wichard survived the war, became a policeman in post-war Germany, and joined the new Luftwaffe in 1935, attaining the rank of Major General. He survived World War Two, as well, and lived until 1968.
