Christmas Hunting Horn Sterling Ornament.  This horn represented in this Sterling Silver collectible was originally used in fox hunting.  A sharp note on such a horn was intended to cause the fox to flee in order to provide it with a sporting chance.  The hunt season corresponds with Christmas and so an association with the hunting horn was established.  Fox hunting is an activity involving the tracking, chase, and sometimes killing of a fox, traditionally a red fox, by trained foxhounds or other scent hounds, and a group of followers led by a master of foxhounds, who follow the hounds on foot or on horseback.
