Teddy Bear Smithsonian Sterling Ornament 1996 Hand and Hammer #1863

Condition: New
Price: $75.00
Teddy Bear Smithsonian Sterling Ornament 1996 Hand and Hammer #1863.  This delightful Sterling Silver ornament is in the form of the ever-popular "Teddy Bear."  The Teddy originated from a hunting trip President Theodore Roosevelt took in 1902.  Eager to have the President bag a trophy, members of the hunting party tied a 235lb. black bear to a tree.  Roosevelt refused to shoot under such unsportsman-like conditions, and Clifford Berryman immortalized this act in an editorial cartoon.  Although it's original toymaker is lost to history, the Teddy Bear is more popular now than ever.

Early teddy bears were made to look like real bears, with extended snouts and beady eyes. Today's teddy bears tend to have larger eyes and foreheads and smaller noses, baby like features that make them more attractive to buyers because they enhance the toy's cuteness, and may even be pre-dressed.

The size of this ornament is about 2" Tall by 1-3/4" Wide.  This Sterling Silver Ornament is in Excellent like new collectible condition.

We look forward to having you as one of our happy buyers.
