Thayer Angel Sterling Christmas Ornament #2980 Hand & Hammer 2003. This sterling silver collectible was made for the Smithsonian and was inspired from a painting by Abbott Handerson Thayer. Thayer was born in Boston, Massachusetts. The son of a country doctor, he spent his childhood in rural New Hampshire, near Keene, at the foot of Mount Monadnock. Some of his finest works are in the collections of the Freer Gallery of Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Academy of Design, National Museum of American Art, and Art Institute of Chicago.
The word Angel means messenger, a bringer of tidings. Reference to the angels and their office as messengers and ministers from God is frequent in the scriptures and belief in their existence is important to Christian tradition.
The size of this ornament is about 2-1/4" high X 1-1/2" wide. This Sterling Silver Ornament is in Excellent like new collectible condition.
