The Reed
and Barton Cross Series started in 1971. The back is flat and suitable
to wear. We have others in this series available. The
1975 Cross is a stylized reproduction of the eight-pointed cross worn
by the "Knights Hospitallers", the 11th century religious order of
Chivalry. Founded in 1070 A.D. the "Knights Hospitallers" or the "Order
of Malta" as they were later called, were composed of Knights of noble
descent, who later provided hospital services to the needy during the
12th century Crusades in Europe.
This Sterling Silver ornament series in based on authenthic originals of historic and artistic significance. The
raised spiral ornaments on the 1977 Cross were inspired by the ancient
Neoithic stone carvings from the temple of Hal Tanian on the island of
Malta. It is marked Reed & Barton, 1977, Sterling. This ornament is an estate piece and in terrific condition.
We look forward to having you as one of our happy buyers.
