Hatch Shell Sterling Christmas Ornament 2001. The
Edward Hatch Memorial Shell on Boston's Charles River is one of
America's best-known musical venues. Famous for the performances of
Arthor Fiedler and the Boston Pops orchestra, the present riverside
nusic shell was erected in 1940, continuing a tradition of outdoor
public concerts dating back to 1910. The Esplanade civil engineering
was subsidized by the Storrow family in 1929, with the first portable
music shell erected that year. Storrow Drive was built in the 1950's
and the Hatch Shell was refurbished in the early 1990's.
