Bridge on the River Kwai (1957)
DESCRIPTION: This is Bridge on the River Kwai with WIlliam Holden, Alec Guiness and a fantastic supporting cast. This is the Widescreen LASER DISC version and the Discs have been kept in the jacket which is in a plastic sleeve and played only a couple of times. It's in beautiful condition. I still watch many of the LD movies I have but I'm thinning the list to make room for other things.
REVIEW: "The story centers on a Japanese prison camp isolated deep in the jungles of Southeast Asia, where the remorseless Colonel Saito (Sessue Hayakawa) has been charged with building a vitally important railway bridge. His clash of wills with a British prisoner, the charismatic Colonel Nicholson (Alec Guinness), escalates into a duel of honor, Nicholson defying his captor's demands to win concessions for his troops. How the two officers reach a compromise, and Nicholson becomes obsessed with building that bridge, provides the story's thematic spine; the parallel movement of a team of commandos dispatched to stop the project, led by a British major (Jack Hawkins) and guided by an American escapee (William Holden), supplies the story's suspense and forward momentum.
Shot on location in Sri Lanka, Kwai moves with a careful, even deliberate pace that survivors of latter-day, high-concept blockbusters might find lulling--Lean doesn't pander to attention deficit disorders with an explosion every 15 minutes. Instead, he guides us toward the intersection of the two plots, accruing remarkable character details through extraordinary performances. Hayakawa's cruel camp commander is gradually revealed as a victim of his own sense of honor, Holden's callow opportunist proves heroic without softening his nihilistic edge, and Guinness (who won a Best Actor Oscar, one of the production's seven wins) disappears as only he can into Nicholson's brittle, duty-driven, delusional psychosis. His final glimpse of self-knowledge remains an astonishing moment--story, character, and image coalescing with explosive impact.

DO NOT USE MEDIA/PARCEL POST if you want it in a timely manner)!
INSURANCE (US ONLY~ INCLUDED if over $30.00): I AM NOT responsible for USPS damage or losses. While I've had less than 1% report problems, they do occur. IF you want CHEAP SHIPPING (or FREE (?)) please DON'T BUY FROM ME (I could use cheap manila envelopes, stick stamps on it and drop it in the mail but unfortunately could not offer insurance with that option.)! My fees were in line with Amazon and other reasonable shippers and for the SPEEDY SERVICE you get I believe its well worth it. If you disagree please shop with cheaper but not necessarily better sellers. REMEMBER nothing is truly FREE (Amazon's FREE shipping takes several weeks to arrive SO it costs you time and comes poorly packaged. I know I've used it).

FEEDBACK POLICY: I ALWAYS leave POSITIVE FEEDBACK for all buyers who leave same for me. WHY? I sell hundreds of items and until I know you're satisfied I don't consider the transaction complete. When I get positive FB I know you're happy and so am I and leave FB to reflect that.
A small number of buyers (less than .05%) have reported problems with there orders. Most were civil and polite in reporting their concerns and I resolved them to their satisfaction in all but a few instances. A VERY small percentage was RUDE, nasty and even vulgar in their contacts. I don't deserve that and won't leave FB for cretins like that. My time is valuable and I won't spend it leaving FB for people who don't take time to let me know they are happy with their purchase or in the rare case they aren't to tell me why they were disappointed!
