This is a magnificent painting by Pierre de Clausade - truly GREAT art which is enchanting, timeless and inspirational. Pierre de Clausade. La Piece D'eau Nievre 25" x 30" Oil on Canvas Signed and Dated 1958 Framed in a magnificent hand carved oak frame by "House of Henderyk" (The Rolls Royce of frames! Used by many museums to frame their best paintings)
Well-listed, and highly collected artist worldwide with a major following in U.K.
Pierre de
Clausade was born in Paris on April 15, 1910 and trained as an architect before turning to painting. After attending the Beaux-Arts
Academy in Paris, Pierre de Clausade began endless experiments in an effort to
develop an entirely personal method of expression. He succeeded in developing a
style that is unique, and highly recognizable by anyone who sees his paintings today.
Pierre de Clausade exhibited regularly at the Societe des Beaux Arts.
In 1945, he was accepted as a member of the Salon d'Hiver. With the
continued success of his Salon exhibitions, Clausade began receiving
invitations to exhibit worldwide. He exhibited in Rio de Janeiro,
Boston, New York and Dallas. In 1955, Clausade won the Prix de Poésie in
Paris.
Clausade has
always been a great lover of music and literature and indeed and there
are many who see in his particularly personal painting the reflection of
music. His paint flows like cream across the canvas. He delights us
with his creation of a world of solitude, which expresses at the same
time the full beauty of nature in all its aspects. There is an
enchantment and inspiration of great cloud masses that only he can
create. He takes us to places off the beaten track, where he refreshes
us in the peace and above all, with the quietness of his pictures.
Today, when the world is in such a turmoil and men have 'lost their
reason", the ability to give such relief is an important and
recuperative gesture, for which collectors everywhere have shown their
appreciation and gratitude.
Pierre de Clausade paintings are highly desirable, and collectible worldwide, and always do well at auction. De Clausade does not fit into any "trendy" categories. He is simply a great painter, who is highly respected by connoisseurs who recognize the quality and refinement of de Clausade's work.
de Clausade's prices have been steadily climbing over the past 10 years. Today, you can purchase a "good" de Clausade such as this one for between $8,000-$15,000 in London galleries. This is about 200-300% increase in value over 10 years. (Not to bad, considering Dow Jones was flat during same period.) Occasionally, these paintings come up at auction for $3,000-$7,000 (plus 20% premium and tax) depending on quality. (Perhaps $3,000 for a "C" painting and $7,000 for an "A" painting such as this one.)
This painting is priced at $8850.00 which represents a fair price, considering this is a PRIME example of the artists oeuvre. Just hang it up on your wall and enjoy. I have had this painting hanging on my walls for 10 years. Every time I look at it I get pleasure, and see something different in it. You are investing in a timeless piece of art.
I believe this painting, and all good de Clausade prices will continue to appreciate over the next decade, at a steady rate. Paintings such as this will probably sell for about $25,000-35,000 at the end of this decade based on current trends. In the meantime you can enjoy and collect pleasurable dividends every time you and your family view this painting!
(This is not to be construed as any type of investment advice!!! I am only stating a personal and biased opinion)
