This painting is a solid "10"! Photo does not do it justice. Looks incredible when you see it in natural daylight in your home. Constantly reveals something new in different light conditions - truly the mark of a great abstract expressionist painting.

However long you look at this painting, you will always discover something new it's composition.

We can see here that Karn was on top of what was happening a the cutting edge of painting in 1958, with influences of  color field painters, Morris Louis, and Helen Frankthaler, and Paul Jenkins.

Gloria Stoll Karn undiscovered first generation abstract expressionist painter...

Gloria Stoll Karn was a very successful pulp fiction artist in the 1940's after graduating high school. While commercial art supported her and her family, here true interest was in the fine arts and she enrolled in the New York Art Students League which was the hotbed of the emerging abstract expressionist movement. She alter moved to Pittsburgh, PA, in the late 1940's and studied with Samuel Rosenberg who also taught Andy Warhol.

It was at this time in the late 1940s' and early 50's that Gloria Karn was painting in the avant garde style as a first generation abstract expressionist, along with peers Robert Motherwell, Jackson Pollock, Willem DeKooning, et all. Gloria Karn was one of the few rare women painters in this group, along with Joan Mitchell, and Lee Krasner, Corrinne
Michael West, Helen Frankenthaller.

The two paintings up for sale on ebay, are clearly high quality, and original compositions which can easily rank among the better output of the New York School painters.

Gloria Stoll Karn is a well-listed artist an appears in museum collections.
Here is a site with some bio: http://www.pulpartists.com/Stoll.html

Not much information is available on the artist, today. However it is likely that academics will include her in the canon of the American Abstract Expressionist movement in the future.
(What that really means, in plain English, is that the value of Karn's paintings is likely to skyrocket.)

Yeah, I know, I know...you looked her up in the price database and found nothing.... Don't be silly. You can find dozens of ab-ex painters who are selling for $50K today, and had no auction records in the 1990's. This painting easily justifies a $25,000 price tag. Grab it now, before an astute collector stumbles across this listing and buys it.
