Zippo Manufacturing Process



The cases of Zippo lighters are typically made of metal and are rectangular-shaped with a hinged top. Inside the case are the works of the lighter: the spring-toggle lever that keeps the top closed, the wick, windscreen, thumb wheel, and flint, all of which are mounted on an open-bottom metal box that is slightly smaller than the bottom of the outer case, and into which it slips snugly.

 

The hollow part of the interior box encloses a rayon batt which is in contact with the wick. The fuel, a volatile flammable liquid commonly known as lighter fluid (usually naphtha), is poured into the batt, which traps it.

It also contains a tube that holds a short, cylindrical flint. The tube has an interior spring and exterior cap-screw that keeps the flint in constant contact with the exterior thumb-wheel. Spinning this rough-surfaced wheel against flint results in a spark that ignites the fluid in the wick.

The batt used to have a small hole in the bottom to facilitate easier filling of lighter fluid; it was often used as a place to store extra flints. Newer models do not always have the hole, and instead have a flap in the bottom of the batt (with the hinge on one of the short edges).

 

The words "LIFT TO FILL" are stamped in black ink multiple times on the bottom, with the intention being that the user should lift the flap and squirt the fuel in to the batt material under the flap.  

All parts of the lighter are replaceable. In all there are 22 parts, and the Zippo lighter requires 108 manufacturing operations.

We have the full range of Zippo lighters which totals in excess of 400 designs. Please enquire if there is a particular design you require.

Due to safety regulations, all lighters are shipped unfuelled and require liquid fuelling. This is hazard precation demanded by the courier network.

DELIVERY TIMEFRAME

All goods are usually despatched within the timeframes and for the rare instance of delays, the customer will be well informed of the despatch date and expected arrival date. For such rare scenario's we will upgrade the postage service at our own cost to avoid unnecessary delays. In all cases, we will notify of order despatch to prepare the customer for an estimated delivery date.

 

DELIVERY DELAYS

Royal Mail has a policy on delivery delays, damage and loss and a key extract from it reads, “Please wait 15 working days (from the due date of delivery) before contacting us as we would not consider any item as lost until 15 working days have elapsed. Although a very small fraction of items do incur damage or loss through transit, please understand this is something out of our control and the responsibility lies with the courier. For any items that haven't been received by 15 working days after expected delivery date, the following claim form needs to be completed to obtain compensation from Royal Mail:

We keep a record and retain a proof of postage for every order despatch. If you require this during the claims process, please inform us and we will send you a scanned copy. If you opted for Recorded Delivery, please request the tracking number.

RETURNS

If you have simply changed your mind or no longer need your ordered product(s), please notify us via eBay message and we will instruct you on the process to return the product(s) to us and receiving a refund. The returned item(s) must be in unused and original condition. The cost of return to us will need to be paid by the buyer and in cases where an exchange is required, we will cover the cost of the shipping of the replacement product.
