David Robert Joseph Beckham (born 2 May 1975) is an English professional footballer who plays for Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy. He is also currently a member of the England national team.

In addition to his success on the pitch, Beckham has been recognized by Time magazine as one of the Time 100 (Heroes & Icons) and has received many other accolades for his charitable work and leadership off the pitch. In this May's Greatest Britons 2007 awards, he was voted "Britain's Greatest Ambassador".

He is well-known as an elite global advertising brand, and beyond his major adidas campaigns, boasts countless non-sport endorsements as diverse as Best Buy electronics and Disney theme parks.

His new contract with the LA Galaxy took effect on 1 July 2007, and the team announced that he would be introduced officially to the press and to fans on 13 July in a presentation also revealing his number and the team's own new uniform design.
