Pond liner 59'x59', extremely durable; can hold up to 100,000 gallons!
Far superior to rubber membranes -- see below.
Originally designed as a fuel spill berm liner for the US military, it has been manufactured to tight MIL specs.
Elastomeric coated nylon webbing is extremely tear and puncture resistant, and is designed for prolonged UV exposure.
Color
is light tan, as shown in photo. Additional photos show the dimensions,
one of the heavy duty drain hoses, and a very modest installation of
this material as a pond liner. The photos were taken of a 59x59' liner
made into a wildlife pond. The material was chosen because it needed no underlayment, and
is far more puncture resistant for deer hooves than rubber liners.
Rubber liners would have required concrete edges, in addition to
underlayment! Also, note how one of molded drains was used as an overflow, so that excess water would not run over the edges and cause erosion!
Special feature: Two
molded drain/fill ports with 4-inch Aluminum alloy fittings, valves,
and 20-foot long quick-connect hoses, external strainers, and dust caps.
The ports are located 20 feet from two opposite corners, or 14 feet
from the respective edges of the liner. You could run your pump wiring
through one of the ports with hose attached, and use the second port for
filling and draining, or connect several of these ponds to each
other...
The outer edges feature doubled material and eight
handle loops, each designed to hold up to at least 500 pounds of pulling
force.
I have had rubber pond liners myself in Central Oregon, a high
desert area, and was surprised at how easily they tore when deer veered
into the pond. So, I looked up the specs for pond liners online and came
across those for one of the leading materials, the Firestone EPDM
membrane - basically a rubber liner.
I am more of a scientist myself, than a salesman. These liners are
made of an elastomeric coated nylon webbing, are far more tear resistant
and durable than any rubber membrane could be not only in theory, but
also in practice; see for example the description of the 'screwdriver
test' below.
In the worst case, damage will likely result in much smaller holes
than in rubber, which can simply keep on tearing. Also, damage can be
repaired either with a specified combination of heat and pressure, or
simply by compressing a plug over the hole, or oftentimes temporarily by
plugging it with a wooden plug. In fact, the repair kits for my 20,000
gallon and 50,000 gallon bladder tanks made of the same material have
cone-shaped, wooden plugs for emergency repair...
The military has very practical tests for specifying puncture
resistance: One of them is forcing a screwdriver through the material.
The specifications for the 'screwdriver test' on this material require a
puncture resistance of 10 times the tensile strength of the Firestone
membrane!
The edges of my liners have doubled up material: it is folded over
and heat-seamed. The tear resistance specs for the seams alone are equal
to the tear resistance of an untouched piece of the Firestone liner;
the fabric itself is many times more tear resistant.
The storage shelf life of the Firestone liners is specified as 12
months; my liners have well over 5 years storage shelf life left.
Lastly, if you are planning on having several ponds at even
slightly different elevations, the system of drains, valves, and hoses
would make it easy to connect the ponds, have them feed each other, or
isolate them from each other for individual cleaning.
New/old stock, meaning it has been sitting on the shelf for awhile.
Still in sealed crate, never used. Guaranteed at least 5 years shelf
life left. Most units currently in stock have over ten years shelf life left.
