After 60 years of manufacturing horse-drawn vehicles and related parts,the William Gray and Sons Company Limited(Chatham,Ontario) saw demand for its products begin to wane in favour of the automobile.In response,the company set out to capitalize on this latest innovation and soon forged a partnership with Michigan based Dort.

The first Gray-Dorts rolled off the production line and into the Canadian psyche in 1915.They were reliable and economical cars with a tough engine that was quick to start_a prized capability during harsh Canadian winters.Other features included luxurious upholstery,silk curtains,quality flooring and more windows than other cars.

The 25-SM luxury model(1923) best embodies the spirit of the Gray-Dort's short but illustrious decade as Canada's quintessential car for the 1920's.One of the first six-cylinders cars to be introduced,its T8000 engine was exceptionally smooth and powerfull for the time.The 25_SM can still be seen at the Reynolds-Alberta Museum of Transportation in Wetaskiwin,Alberta.
