A child prodigy, he painted his first portrait at the age of four and commenced his formal art education at nine, receiving his Master of Fine Arts degree from the world-acclaimed Surikov Academy in Moscow. In the course of his formal education (1974-1990), he trained in the renowned Classical Realism curriculum, studying the technique and principles of such masters as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael, among others. A combination of structure, discipline, and passion define both the artist and his work. A speaker with the exclusive Harry Walker Speakers Bureau of New York and an elected member of the National Arts Club of NYC, Maestro Babailov is also an accomplished writer, philosopher, and scholar in fine arts, in addition to being a master of portrait and multi-figurative paintings. He was the only living artist featured in the North American tour of "Vatican Splendors: A Journey through Faith and Art," an extraordinary exhibit that celebrates the history of Vatican art. Pope Benedict XVI personally selected the Babailov portrait to represent his papacy in the exhibit, which concluded its three-city tour in April 24, 2011. source: http://www.aquinascollege.edu/community/news-story.php?announcementID=202
