This is a vintage master cut glass knife rest of heavy crystal in a barbell design.  The knife rest, which is 5" long, has cuttings both on the end balls but also along the bar.  Knife rests were used in the late Victorian era to keep knife blades off tablecloths so as to not stain them.  Master knife rests were placed so that the carving knife could be placed on it.
