Architectural Artifacts tiles 100+ years old MAW & CO
this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own tiles such as this.
These are authentic and 100 + years old.
I aquired these from an architect's estate from the St. Louis area.
These are the original "left over" pieces from the St. Louis Union Station.
(one of the most beautiful buildings in the United States)
I have 80 tiles. You are bidding on one tile. I have seen other MAW & Co. tiles go for $80.00 per tile. MAW & Co. is a tile company from England and went out of business I think about 70 to 80 years ago.
The who helped build the St. Louis Union Station was from England.
Antique Maw & Co. Tile from Shropshire England, circa late 1800's.
Maw & Co together with their near neighbours Craven Dunnill and the Welsh company J C Edwards produced the best quality lustre tiles in the more usual copper (red) and silver (gold). Consistently better than de Moirgan's who also did not 'rediscover' lustre as is widely reported for example Minton & Co were doing lustre wares preceding de Morgan in the 19thC.
The lustre process relying on a reaction between the atmosphere in the kiln and the painted stain results in a brilliant metallic sheen that is literally on the very surface and hence is often subject to marks like scratches and wear, this tile however has a near perfect surface with only very minor marks. The difficulty and unpredictability of the process also means that rather more less than perfect lustre tiles were acceptable. They were vastly more expensive than tiles decorated by other techniques, up to eight times more expensive than other handpainted tiles of the day.
Silver lustre is so-called because the element that makes the colour is silver, the effect however is of gold.
Verso is not named but carries distinctive marks identified as Maws who used dozens of often very different patterns of rails, grids and more.

Packing your item safely is very important,
your item is packed well enough for its journey through postal depots and on the various vans, cages, conveyors etc,
the item is very fragile it is advisable
may have to double box with pleanty of bubble wrap for packing.
I may advise sending items Special Delivery, that way it is fully insured in transit. Do not send items via carriers, there are none that cover the transportation of ceramics.
