This is a 1 pound bag of Steel Cut Oats.  These are also called Irish Style Oats or Oat Groats.  This size bag contains 16 ounces.

Steel Cut Oat Groats come from the inner most part of the oat kernel and have a nutty taste and a chewy texture.  These steel cut oats are more natural and nutrient packed than rolled oats because they undergo minimal processing.  Cooking time is longer for these oats than rolled oats and can be used in soups and stews as well as breads and baked goods.    

Directions for Steel Cut Oats:  

Bring 4 cups water to a brisk boil. Add 1 cup oats & stir well. When oatmeal begins to thicken, reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes stirring occasionally.   Do not over cook!   Quick soak method: Boil 4 cups water. Turn off heat & add 1 cup oatmeal.   Cover & leave overnight.   Next morning cook on low 9-12 min.   Stir occasionally. Makes 4 servings.
