A highly unusual Whiting Ivy pattern sterling silver hooded soup ladle. Dating to the 1870's and housed in the original presentation box. Box with gold embossed interior label "T.& E. Dickinson" of Buffalo New York. Blue silk interior has a few stains and some frayed sections. The leather on the box is in good condition, the clasps close tightly. This ladle measures 13" long and has elaborate open work on the hooded section of the ladle. It is in impeccable condition, original finish, only the lightest wear to the original gold washed bowl, well struck-up design, fancy period Victorian monogram SMB. Marked Patent 1866, Sterling #1, with the Whiting trademark. A very large, very rare serving piece in the Whiting Ivy pattern.
