A very uncommon Alexander I period sterling silver gallery tray. Heavy threaded rim and border, elaborate hand pierced gallery, riveted base construction, marked on each handle with the 84 standard and a partially rubbed maker/year mark, "180?". The first letter of the maker is visible below the date on one side though I don't have very good Russian silver reference books and am unable to determine whom it may be. I suspect with the first letter and what is visible of the date mark you should be able to properly attribute this. It is certainly Alexander I period and dates no later than 1809. I am calling it C.1805. This is a substantial tray, weighing over 150 troy ounces and measuring nearly 25" across at the handles and 18.25" wide. Email questions
