An amazing monumental trophy given to Lazar Samoiloff, a Russian Tenor who eventually became the most notable vocal instructor in New York City during the first quarter of the 19th century. Some of Samoiloff's students include Rosa Raisa, Julius or Jules Bledsoe, Lazar Weiner and Anna Rothenberg. The trophy has the following testimonial engraved on one side "Presented to Lazar S. Samoiloff by his pupils at a public concert given at Carnegie Lyceum in the city of New York March 12th 1910, as a token of their esteem for him as a Master and Teacher of the Art of Singing and appreciation of his able excellent and devoted efforts to impart to them the knowledge of it's principals and practice". The opposite side of the trophy has a finely engraved winged angel blowing a horn with musical script running below. This was made by the Meridan company and is stamped with their trademark and the word sterling as well as capacity information. This measures 13.5" high and about 14" across at the handle and weighs nearly 44 troy ounces. Condition is very good with a very light ding or two on the handles. The body is blemish free.
