a 12" high trophy vase by Shreve & Co. of San Francisco California. Awarded by Pelicano Rossi Co. on at the Fairmont Hotel, October 14th of 1909 to Robert Schmidt for First Prize, Best vase of American Beauties. Angelo Rossi, founder of Pelicano Rossi eventually went on to become Mayor of the city of San Francisco and presided over that city during the construction of the Golden Gate, Bay Bridge, the building of Treasure Island and the Golden Gate Exposition of 1939. This is a large piece of 14th Century pattern silver and it is in superb original condition. never buffed or abused, it retains a very natural soft grey patina. It is marked Shreve & Co. San Francisco, Base Loaded. It is of heavier than average gauge construction, free of dings, dents or scratches. A rare find in this size, gauge and condition. This was made shortly after the opening of the hotel. Gross weight 17.07 troy ounces
