A very rare change purse in Shark Skin with sterling silver mounts by Tiffany & Co. C.1883. The monogram is JSP and is done in the Aesthetic taste with stylized graduated pearl strands forming the monogram. Embossed Tiffany & Co. New York, Paris, London in the leather and stamped clearly Tiffany & Co. Makers, Sterling 7265 M 252 Sterling Silver on the inner clasp, it has 6 separate compartments inside. The outer clasp is missing one half of the mechanism, something could be fabricated to work, the leather is all there but split on one edge where the clasp affixed, the split is about 1/4" wide, small.. easily repaired. This piece is in good enough condition to be used, it is not falling apart or suffering from deterioration, just some wear. The leather has a nice sheen to it, not dull. This is simply one of the more unusual Tiffany items that I have owned. An amazing piece that can be positively dated by style and pattern number to C.1883-4 Closed, this measures 4.25" X 2.75"
