About Batik
Batik is a fabric dyeing technique that uses the resist process; the fabric is covered with a dye-resist material such as wax that prevents that part of the fabric from absorbing colors. The Batik art is primarily a three stage process and involves waxing, dyeing and de-waxing. The pattern is traced on the fabric and areas of the fabric that do not need to be colored are waxed. The fabric is then dipped in multiple color dyes and finally the wax is removed by dipping the fabric in boiling water. Batik colors are extremely resistant and do not fade.
