It measures a large (26" X 16"). Possibly the best description of this flag can be found in Boleslaw and Marie-Louise D'Ortange Mastai's book "The Stars and the Stripes...The American Flag as Art and as History from the Birth of the Republic to the Present". On page 162 of their book this Flag is pictured and the Mastai's dedicated the entire page to this important flag. Here is the description from Mastai's book about this flag: "The 'International Flag' patented in 1875 with an unofficial total of thirty-nine stars in its constellation, is notable not only for its canton-which contains six vertical "rows," three with small stars and three with large stars-but also for its border of small flags of the nations that were to attend the United States' hundredth birthday party. It brings to mind a flag carried by the printers of calico for the July 4, 1788, celebrations in Philadelphia; on that occasion the Stars and Stripes was surrounded by an edge of thirty-seven prints of various colors and carried the motto "May the Union government protect the manufacturers of America." This flag is also displayed in the more recent book by Keven and Peter Keim titled "A Grand Old Flag". The Keims place a photo of this flag in their chapter on the centennial exhibition of 1876 on page 135 with the following description: "A cotton 39-Star Flag, printed as a Centennial souvenir, proclaimed America's emergence as a world power, a bridge to East and West. As you can see from the pictures this flag has a 39 Star United States flag surrounded by the flags of 38 other nations including: Great Britain, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Russia, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Siam, Tunis, Persia, Egypt, Brazil, Peru, Venezuela, Honduras, Guatemala, Ecuador, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Chili, Argentine, U.S. Columbia, Ireland, China, Japan, Morocco, Sandwich, Hayti, Liberia, and Mexico. It also has the following printed on the left edge of the flag: "International Patented DEC 28. 1875" Condition: This flag is in wonderful condition. This rare 134 year old flag has really no imperfections. There are a couple of stains on the flag as seen in the pictures and there seems to be one pencil line between the China and Japan flags on the left border. A few tiny pin holes are visible when held up to the light. The colors are very bright for the age and the detail in the international flags can be seen. This flag will look wonderful framed.
