Up for grabs is another hard to find genuine 70's chopper part: MPD (Magnuson Products Development) Harley Davidson Ironhead Sportster Chrome FINNED PRIMARY COVER for 1957-1969 XLCH (Kick Start model) and 1970-1972 XLR Ironhead Sportsters.
These are getting harder and harder to find and are the best bolt on piece made back in the 70's for Ironheads hands down. Not only do they look killer on the bike, but the fins also help those old Ironhead engines run a little cooler!
CONDITION:
Please look at all of the supersized pictures and use the zoom feature to make your own final judgement, I have tried to highlight the cover from all angles. Here is the condition of the cover as I see it:
-Cover is in good structural shape with no warping, cracks, dents, or any other major flaws. Does have normal scrapes and a little chip out of the fin where the kickstand tends to hit the cover on these (see photos 7 & 8)
-Chrome is in poor shape with lots of missing areas (chipped off and now showing the bare aluminum). From a distance it actually looks fine, but if you're not into patina and letting old chopper parts tell their story it will need to be stripped and polished or re-chromed.
-Inside of cover shows the normal wear marks at the top from the primary chain, nothing however that would cause any issue (see photo 10)
FITMENT:
-Cover is stamped 57-69 XLCH and 70-72 XLR on the inside and is 100% correct bolt on replacement fitment for these models.
