Up for grabs is a genuine piece of chopper history: OLD SCHOOL HANDMADE BRASS BRAZED CUSTOM SPADE/COFFIN STYLE CHOPPER TANK.
This is truly a one of a kind hand built chopper timecapsule! You can be sure nobody else will have a tank with the style and patina this tank has. If you are looking for an old school tank to set your bike apart from the crowd and tell a story of the days of old chopper glory this is it.
Please keep in mind this is an old handmade tank that was
made from 24 pieces of hand cut, hand formed sheetmetal and brass
brazed back in the day in somebody's garage and it looks the part with
plenty or imperfections, which is what makes it so cool. DO NOT buy
this to smooth it out and Bondo it up to slap some paint on it, this is
somebody's old school craftsmanship and a piece of chopper history and
should be proudly displayed and allowed to tell it's story on the right
old school bike.
CONDITION:
Please look at all of the supersized pictures and use the zoom feature to make your own final judgement, I have tried to highlight the tank from all angles. Here is the condition as I see it:
- Tank is in overall great shape for its age. Heavy gauge steel body has no dings or dents and is extremely solid (tank weighs approx. 14lbs).
- Outside has a great surface rust patina and is set off by all of the exposed brass brazing around all of the seams.
- Tank should be pressure tested and checked for leaks (this is old school brass brazed many years ago).
- Inside should be cleaned out and professionally sealed at a radiator shop (or a quality do it yourself sealant like Red-Kote or Caswell should be used).
- Mounting tabs are both present and solid
- Filler neck and petcock bung are both common Harley Davidson style (no gas cap or petcock included, but easily found for cheap since they are both common Harley style).
